Create Your First Analysis with Amazon Quick
Once you have signed in to Amazon Quick, you can start exploring your data using Amazon Quick Sight, the data visualization and analysis component of Amazon Quick.
For your first analysis, you can start with a sample dataset before connecting your own business data.
Step 1: Upload Your Dataset
Start by uploading the data you want to analyze, you can download it here.
From the Amazon Quick homepage:
- Choose Data from the navigation menu.
- Under the Datasets tab, select New and then Dataset.
- Choose Upload file.
- Select your CSV file.
- Review the file upload settings and choose Next.
- On the Data source details page, choose Visualize.
For example, you can use the Web and Social Media Analytics sample dataset provided in the Amazon Quick Sight user guide.
Once your dataset is ready, you can start turning the data into visual insights.
Step 2: Create Your First Visualization
Now, create your first visualization using the fields available in your dataset.
- Open the dataset in an analysis.
- Select the fields you want to explore.
- For example, select Date and Mailing list adds.
- Amazon Quick Sight automatically creates a visualization using AutoGraph.
In this example, Amazon Quick Sight creates a line chart that shows mailing list additions over time.
You don’t need to manually select a chart type first. AutoGraph automatically selects a visualization based on the fields you choose.
Step 3: Adjust the Level of Detail
Once your visualization is created, you can adjust how the data is displayed.
For example, the Date field can initially display data by day. You can change the aggregation to Month to see the overall trend more clearly.
To do this:
- Go to the Field wells section.
- Select the Date field.
- Choose the three-dot menu.
- Select Aggregate.
- Choose Month.
The visualization will update the data by month.
Step 4: Add More Visuals
A single visualization can help answer one question, but you can add multiple visuals to explore your data from different perspectives.
To add another visual:
- Choose Insert.
- Select Add visuals.
- Choose the visualization type you want to use.
- Select the relevant fields from your dataset.
- Add the fields to the appropriate field wells.
For example, you can create a scatter plot by using Desktop Uniques on the X axis, Mobile Uniques on the Y axis, and Date as the Group/Color field.
You can continue adding and arranging visuals to build an analysis that answers different business questions.
Step 5: Add Filters
As your analysis becomes more detailed, filters can help you focus on the information that matters.
To add a filter:
- Select a visual.
- Choose Insert.
- Select Add Filter.
- Choose the field you want to filter.
- Configure the filter conditions.
- Choose Apply.
You can also apply the filter to other visuals that use the same dataset, allowing multiple visuals to reflect the same filtering criteria.
Step 6: Publish Your Dashboard
Once your analysis is ready, you can turn it into a dashboard.
To publish your analysis:
- Choose Publish.
- Select Publish dashboard.
- Choose Publish as a new dashboard or replace an existing dashboard.
- Enter your dashboard name.
- Select the sheets you want to include.
- Configure the available dashboard options.
- Choose Publish.
Amazon Quick Sight also provides options such as generative capabilities, Data Q&A, and data stories when publishing a dashboard.
Your dashboard is now ready to be accessed and shared with other users.
